The Macmillan nursing teams based at hospitals in West Herts are holding an information and support event for people with cancer and their relatives or carers.
The Living Beyond Cancer event takes place on Thursday, September 5 at Holywell Community Centre, Tolpits Lane, Watford, from 11am to 2pm.
There will be advice on benefits, diet, relaxation, exercise and wigs for patients who have lost their hair, as well as the chance to try out therapy taster sessions and even have a mini-makeover.
Lead Macmillan cancer nurse at the West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust Michelle Sorley said: “Last year, over 8,000 patients were referred to the Trust from their GP with suspected cancer. This is obviously a very worrying time for them.
“We hope that this event will help to make people feel more comfortable and able to open up and talk about cancer. It will also make people more aware of the cancer support services which are available to them, both in the hospital and in the community.
“People attending the event will also be invited give us feedback about the care they have received from the NHS, which will be used to help improve cancer services in the future.”
