The owners of a late night bar which has been standing empty have asked councillors to give permission for extended drinking hours as they put together plans to reopen the venue.

Hospitality firm Whitbread has applied for longer licensing hours for The Exchange in Hemel Hempstead’s town centre.

The permitted times that drinks can currently be served up under the existing rules are Monday to Thursday from 10am to midnight, Friday until 1am, Saturday until 1.30am and Sunday from midday to 12.30am.

The licensing application submitted to Dacorum Borough Council requests new hours of 9am to 3am for every day of the week.

It is also intended that the venue in Marlowes may open earlier for non-licensing activities such as serving up breakfasts.

The application outlines plans to refurbish and reopen the premises in a deal being done between Whitbread and well known nightclub owner Darren Miles.
