A parabadminton player from Potten End has hit a clean sweep after retaining his singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles titles in the Welsh leg of the Four Nations tournament.
Martin Rooke, 40, of Hedgeside, competed in the Cardiff event over the weekend and returned with three gold medals. He is currently ranked world number one at the sport, which he took up just 21/2 years ago after an accident in 2006 left him mostly wheelchair-bound.
Martin is now preparing to enter the sport’s World Championships in Dortmund, Germany in November.
He said: “That is what I’m gearing up for now – I’m training as hard as I can twice a day, five days a week. I’m hoping to do as well as I possibly can.”
Martin is still seeking sponsors to help with the cost of competing. For more details email mart1705@hotmail.co.uk.
