Campaigners against a plan for 900 homes on Green Belt land in west Hemel Hempstead now have some weighty allies in their fight.
While the West Hemel Action Group does not have any political affiliations, it has welcomed the support of both town MP Mike Penning and UKIP.
Mr Penning hopes to find an alternative to the controversial LA3 development between Chaulden and Pouchen End by ‘trading’ the land for space between the Maylands estate and M1.
Chairman of UKIP Hemel Hempstead Howard Koch has now also met with the group.
He said: “UKIP are opposed to the indiscriminate building on Green Belt land and feel that this development has been very badly thought out.
“There will be severe traffic congestion, inadequate medical facilities in the town and yet more destruction of the precious Green Belt. We will now be providing every possible assistance to WHAG.”
The group will next meet on Sunday, September 22 at 7pm at Chaulden Infants’ School.
