A dog was snatched from a car while its owner was shopping at Waitrose in Berkhamsted.
The brindle wire-haired dachshund, which is almost two years old, was taken from the black Suzuki saloon car, which was parked in the supermarket car park between midday and 1pm last Tuesday. It is not known whether the car was locked but a window had been left open.
PCSO James McLean said: “This is a heartbreaking crime for the owner of this dog. I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident or who may have seen anything suspicious to contact us without delay.”
