The Lord Lieutenant of Herts is urging people to share their handed-down Great War stories and pictures for an ambitious centenary DVD.

The feature-length DVD aims to bring back to life stories of the home front in the county during the First World War conflict.

Countess Verulam, who acts as the Queen’s personal representative in Herts, is working with countywide centenary organisation Herts at War as well as museums, archives and remembrance organisations to organise the mammoth project.

She said: “By re-telling the stories of conscientious objectors, Belgian refugees, armaments workers, voluntary aid detachments and residents’ everyday lives in a series of relevant images and early video we will help inform students, organisations and the general public about the lives of our county ancestors a century ago.”

The not-for-profit project will donate the DVDs as historical resources to schools and museums across Herts.
