A professional cake baker and decorator from Tring scooped a gold award at the Cake Internation show at the Birmingham NEC. Sherry Hostler’s intricate burlesque cake was awarded a gold medal certificate after she entered the raunchy design into the wedding cake category.

Sherry – who runs her company The Cake House from her home in Tring – said: “I call it my Dita Von Teese. It’s very voluptuous. I think you’d have to have a very tolerant groom to get away with this cake. It was great to be able to do something outrageous and go wild with my imagination.”

The five-tier cake was adorned with coloured sugarpaste icing, frills, bows and even nipple tassels before being carefully transported to Birmingham by car.

Sherry, 42, said: “It was terrifying as there are so many delicate pieces that can easily shatter if you go over too many speed bumps or round corners too fast.”

To add to the winning feeling, Sherry said it made her week after she received an email about her raunchy cake from burlesque star Dita Von Teese herself, who told her she ‘loved it’.
