Police may have finally stopped a spree of burglaries in Berkhamsted after catching the men behind them.

The Gazette previously reported that there were 45 burglaries in the area between April 1 and September 29 – up from 22 reported to police between those dates in 2012.

But a new report by police community support officer James McLean reveals that there were none in the area in October.

He writes: “Dwelling burglaries is one of the Berkhamsted neighbourhood team priorities. I actively patrol and speak to residents on my beat to inform them of any incidents and offer crime prevention advice and personal safety information.”

Lewis Bentley, 21, of Aston Clinton, was arrested and charged in September for burglary, shoplifting and assault offences in Berkhamsted.

Career burglar Dennis Skiller, 32, from Leighton Buzzard, was jailed for 40 months in August for more than 50 offences that spanned Berkhamsted, Tring, Harpenden and parts of Bucks.
