A shopkeeper is looking forward to a slower pace of life after 30 years of working 13 hour days.
Despite the 6am starts and 7pm finishes, Naresh Chadda - known as Nash to his customers at Cox’s Pond Stores - says it’s been fun.
He handed over the Vauxhall Road shop keys to new owner Kanesu Athithan on Saturday.
“He is quite an experienced retailer,” said Naresh.
“He will be opening longer and offering a bigger variety of items.”
Naresh, who will be celebrating his 60th birthday in March, said he will be focusing on completing a revamp of his VW camper van, which he plans to transform into a mobile coffee shop that he will take to events.
He will also be looking for a part-time job.
Naresh described his departure from the shop as ‘like a part of you is detaching’.
But he said: “It has been fun but I think it is time for a change.
“The customers have been absolutely brilliant.
“I would like to thank all my customers for supporting me over the years.”
