A bumper £15,500 was raised for the Pepper Foundation during a weekend auction.

Dacorum Mayor Penny Hearn hosted the fundraiser at auctioneer husband Stephen’s business - Tring Market Auctions on Saturday.

A total of 980 lots - many donated - were sold and the item to fetch the highest bid was an 18th century oak three drawer chest, which went for £385.

Where items were not donated but sold under the normal sale arrangements, Tring Market Auctions donated its commission to the charity, which funds nurses to look after poorly children.

Mrs Hearn, who is supporting the Pepper Foundation during her year in office, said: “I’m more than pleased with £15,500. It is fantastic. ”

She expressed her gratitude to all who turned out to support the event. “People were very generous,” she said.

The on-site cafe also gave a percentage from the sale of teas and coffees on the day.
