An IT support manager from Leverstock Green had his head shaved to raise money for the Hospice of St Francis.
Gutsy Gavin Howard lost his locks and raised £650 for the charity at his workplace – construction group Skanska in Maple Cross – after mobile hairdresser Lauren King kindly donated her time and skills for free.
The 41-year-old said: “I have to admit to being quite nervous about the experience. I’ve never had my head shaved before and have always had reasonably long hair, so the whole thing is new to me.”
Gavin said he’s had many compliments on his new look, though he’s not sure wife Jenny is a fan.
“I’ve had to invest in a hat as it really is the wrong time of year to be without hair,” he added.
The head shave is the latest in a series of fundraising challenges Gavin and wife Jenny have set themselves in aid of the Northchurch-based hospice.
Jenny recently cooked up a storm at an Anglo-French dinner party at the Olde Leather Bottle in Leverstock Green, raising more than £800.
The inspiration behind the foodie fundraiser is Gavin’s plan to take on the hospice’s London to Paris bike ride next summer, while Jenny will begin training for its Strictly Learn Dancing event in the new year.
