A registered sex offender who carried on committing sickening crimes even though police were able to check his computer has now been jailed for 14 years.
Michael Eller, 67, of Plover Close in Berkhamsted, was convicted of possession of indecent images of children last August, when he was given a three year community order and put on the sex offenders register for five years.
The retired financial director and regular churchgoer was also required to attend a sex offenders treatment programme.
Monitoring software was installed on his computer by police, and it became clear Eller, a married man, had been using Skype to talk with adults in the Philippines in order to arrange the sexual abuse of children as young as three years old.
The hearing at St Albans Crown Court heard that he ‘directed’ the filmed rapes of young children for live broadcast to other perverts.
From his terraced house he was able to instruct men and women on the other side of the world in the abuse of young girls.
He also beamed the sick images to others who had paid into his PayPal account to watch the live online broadcasts.
Judge Michael Plumstead told Eller: “The cold-hearted cruelty of it is beyond comprehension. I can’t think of a worse case.
“You did everything you could to ensure they were raped.”
Det Sgt Sarah Corr from the Herts Police public protection unit said: “The sentence is a substantial one and fully reflects the offences committed by Eller.
“It also proves that monitoring of offenders works and those who continue to commit such awful crimes will be brought to justice.
“I want to reassure the public that we will use every power available to prevent children from being abused, no matter where they are, and are working with partners to deliver justice for victims of these horrendous crimes.”
