Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning, who also serves as a government minister in the Department of Work & Pensions, has welcomed a further fall in unemployment in the area after latest figures were released by the Office for National Statistics.

There were 96 fewer claimants in his constituency in November than the month before, and the total was 309 lower than for the same month last year.

Mr Penning said: “I am pleased to see the number of unemployed claimants continuing to fall in Hemel Hempstead.

“These figures are very encouraging. Local businesses are starting to feel the effects of economic recovery and take on more employees.

“However, we must not be complacent and we must do all we can to ensure local businesses continue to expand.”

The percentage of unemployed claimants in the Hemel Hempstead constituency is now just 2.6 per cent of the economically active population aged 16 to 64.
