A cancer survivor smashed his fundraising target for a a sponsored cycle undertaken just five months after his diagnosis.
Johnny Brown, a Kent University student from Leverstock Green, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in June.
But after being treated with chemotherapy he saddled up and cycled 60km along the Kent coast.
After breaking through his £500 target in nine days, he decided to keep his JustGiving donations page open to raise more cash for Macmillan Cancer Support so far.
“The day I was diagnosed there was a Macmillan nurse there to help me,” said the 22-year-old former Berkhamsted School pupil.
“I just want to pay back all the kindness that person has shown me, but also because Macmillan is an amazing charity.”
“On that day if she hadn’t been there I don’t know what I would have done.”
An operation, just two days after his initial diagnosis, confirmed Johnny had stage one testicular cancer.
But after a speedy recovery he decided to take to his bike to support the good cause.
Despite being a self-described couch potato Johnny said he wanted to do something out of his comfort zone.
“Everyone was shocked when I said I was going to the gym, I’m more of a ‘beer and burger’ kind of person.
“But I wanted to do it on my own because it was personal target,” he said.
After graduating in history and French in June, he has since started training as a teacher and was overwhelmed after his appeal raised more than £150 in the first evening.
“My girlfriend and parents also came and met me halfway – there is no way I can thank them for their support enough,” he added.
