Planning bid by Christian group for Kings Langley worship hall

A strict Christian group that describes radio and television as ‘pipelines of filth’ wants to convert outbuildings at a Kings Langley farm into a place of worship.

The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, which requires women to wear headscarves to worship, has its own schools and puts a strong emphasis on the importance of family, already has a base in Leverstock Green.

But now a formal planning application for the transformation of equestrian buildings at Balls Pond Farm in Chipperfield Road into a gospel hall, complete with car parking for 24 vehicles, has been submitted to Dacorum Borough Council.

Documents show that services would be held there every week on Sundays from 5.45am to 7am and fortnightly on the same day from 3pm to 3.45pm. There would also be weekly Monday meetings from 6.30pm to 7.15pm.

The hall would be used for worship and religious instruction only, with social and recreational uses not permitted.

There would be no sub-letting of the venue and marriages and funeral services would not be conducted here as these are held at the group’s larger city hall in Hemel Hempstead.

At peak times up to 60 people are expected to visit the gospel hall, according to planning documents.

Most meetings are held in private but some sessions are open to the public and street preaching is also conducted.
