Preparation work to transform Hemel Hempstead’s Jarman Park has begun at the current Leisure World site.
While there is currently no set time frame for the official redevelopment to begin building the terrace-fronted series of restaurants including Nando’s and Frankie and Benny’s, contractors have moved in to begin ‘enabling procedures’.
Existing leisure venues at the attraction, which previously boasted a bowling alley, swimming pool and nightclubs, are keen to tell customers that it is business as usual as renovation work begins at the site.
Owners Capital and Regional have confirmed that contractors have moved in to start ‘enabling works’ which will lead to a new series of eateries and a gym at Leisure World.
The start of the refurbishment process means that skating rink Planet Ice’s entrance has moved to the back of the building, but the facility – which was threatened with closure in October – is still up and running.
Empire Cinema and restaurant chain Pizza Hut will also continue to trade as normal during the works.
Cinema manager Richard Conian said: “We are very excited about the redevelopment of Leisure World and the opportunities it will bring to the complex.
“Empire Cinemas is still open as usual and there will be no disruption to the cinema or our customers.”
The long-awaited renovation will also include a new gym, but negotiations on the future of Planet Ice continue.
