A MUSICIAN from Hemel Hempstead has joined forces with an Army veteran to pen a song dedicated to servicemen and women across the world.
Charlie Williams, of Autumn Glades in Leverstock Green, wrote the music after being inspired by Ken Nicholl’s lyrics concerning sacrifice and being apart from family.
The song – called Wingman Down – was hatched after the pair met while working for Balfour Beatty in Maylands Avenue.
Charlie, a 20-year-old trainee quantity surveyor, said: “I started working for Balfour Beatty in January. It happens that Ken was the contract manager for the area. He penned this song but he didn’t have anyone to produce it for him. He approached me, I said ‘yes’. Two or three months later I had a complete song for him.”
The song is available on iTunes and Amazon and proceeds will be used to produce 10,000 book of poetry written by soldiers that will be sent out to serving troops.
Ken, a former recce commander who spent 16 years in the Army, said: “This song is for everyone who’s ever been affected by conflict and peace-keeping missions.
“If we can sell enough copies of it we can bring forth something memorable and meaningful. I really just want to say a heartfelt thank you to all the people who have and continue to support our troops.
“We are honoured to have had your support and love throughout the years.”
Ken, whose son James has just completed his third tour in Afghanistan, has also created the website www.wingmanworld.com to support servicemen and women.
