PLANNING officers have ordered a home-owner to move dormer windows to a different part of his roof – at a cost of £10,000.
When Richard Moorby installed them as part of a £30,000 loft conversion at his home in Mortain Drive, Berkhamsted, he did not think he needed planning permission.
Later he discovered that he did – but by then planning enforcement officers were knocking on his door. To meet their requirements, he will have to spend £10,000.
At a meeting of Berkhamsted Town Council on Monday, he said: “It is already far beyond what we can afford and what we want to do.”
The council warned others to apply for planning permission before changing their homes.
