Parish posts objection to Luton plans for growth

A PARISH council has joined ranks with MPs and other councils in officially objecting to plans to increase capacity at Luton Airport.

In a statement addressed to the airport owners, Redbourn Parish Council said: “Redbourn is currently under the flight path and excessive aircraft noise was a big issue in 2011.

“Even if the flight path centre line is moved to avoid Redbourn, we still believe that aircraft will continue to fly over or close to Redbourn, and more flights means more disturbance.

“Luton Borough Council may benefit financially but the communities to the south of Luton would pay the price environmentally.”

Parish councillors added that they were particularly concerned about any potential increase in the number of night flights.

The airport hopes to increase the number of passengers passing through the airport from 11 to 18 million per year.
