STUNNED youngster Alexander West could not believe it when he returned from playing outside to find a fox in his bed.
The nine-year-old, of Park Hill Road in Hemel Hempstead, had left the back door open on Monday when he went to the playground and the female fox made herself at home.
He ran and told his mother Dina Luminati-West, who closed the bedroom door and called the RSPCA.
She said: “He was very excited, saying: ‘The fox has chosen my bedroom’. I said: ‘Yes, probably because it’s messy’.
“She sat in the middle of the bed, she was there for hours.
“She was in a poor state. She was probably looking for a nice place to stay for a few hours.”
Dina added: “I’m going to throw away everything.”
A RSPCA spokesman said: “Sadly the fox was blind in one eye, had severe mange, and was very emaciated and lethargic.
” Veterinary staff felt that she did not have a chance of recovery and so she was put to sleep to prevent her suffering further.”
