PEOPLE are being invited to a public meeting to discuss the implications of pioneering new research into bowel disease.

The charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK has been handed nearly half a million pounds to help with research into the link between fatigue and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and early findings will be presented at the meeting on Saturday.

Edie Glatter, who suffers with IBD and is a member of the Hemel Hempstead and Watford Crohn’s and Colitis Group, said: “Fatigue has had a big impact on the quality of my life.

“I have to pace myself and find some days I can’t do anything and other times I have to lie down and rest between activities.”

Research so far shows 86 per cent of patients with the active disease suffer from fatigue and up to 41 per cent still suffer even when in remission.

The meeting will take place at the Medical Education Centre, opposite the entrance to Outpatients at Watford General Hospital in Vicarage Road at 2pm.
