A GROUP that has been growing strong in the borough for more than 30 years says it needs new members or it may have to disband.
The Hemel Hempstead and District Fuchsia Group was formed in 1981 but it may fold this autumn unless more members join the society, open to members from across the borough, in the near future.
At the moment the club has 30 members, but has consistently had more than 100 in earlier years.
The group’s secretary Colin Verge said: “We will fold this autumn unless we get more members.
“A large number of committee members have held their positions for a long time and life moves on.
“We need fresh blood and fresh ideas.”
Colin is keen to stress that members don’t need to grow fuchsias themselves, or ‘grow to show’.
Many members grow flowers, but others help run the club and appreciate other’s flowers.
The Hemel Hempstead and District Fuchsia Group meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at Leverstock Green Village Hall from 7.30pm.
Membership is £12 per year.
