A TEENAGE girl from the local area is believed to be the person who has died on the railway line at Berkhamsted station.
Emergency services were alerted at 6.15am this morning following reports of a body on the line.
Ambulance crews attended but the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rail services were disrupted but the line was reopened at 9.48am, though delays are expected until 11.30am.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to Berkhamsted Rail station on Monday, 23 April, following a report of a body on the line.
“BTP and Hertfordshire Constabulary officers attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 6.15am and is currently being treated as unexplained.
“East of England Ambulance Service also attended but the person, believed to be a teenage girl from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances leading up to her death, including how she came to be by the track, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the girl’s family at this tragic time.”
