Here’s your guide to the Jubilee celebrations happening in Dacorum this weekend.
Saturday, June 2
l Hemel Hempstead, Riverside Shopping Centre, activities celebrating the best parts of the last 60 years from 10am to 4pm. The famous Abbey Road zebra crossing will be recreated for the 1960s, flower power art will be on offer for the 1970s, try out computer games from the 1980s and the digital age will be explored for the 1990s.

l Redbourn, Herts County Show, Showground, 8.30am to 5.30pm, celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with the biggest red, white and blue party in Herts. Visitors are invited to wear the regal colours. Tickets £16 for adults, £7.50 for children (U5s go free), £39.50 for a family, £14 for seniors (over 60).
Sunday, June 3

l St Barnabas Church in Adeyfield will be kicking off the Jubilee celebrations with a special service at 10.30am to remember Her Majesty’s visit to the area in 1952.
Then there will be a Big Lunch in Queens Square from midday to 4pm. People should take packed lunches along with them and there will be free rides for children, face painting and community stalls.
Queen’s Square will be closed to traffic from 8am to 6pm on the day.
Monday, June 4
l Hemel Hempstead, a carnival representing Dacorum through the diamond decades will work its way through the town centre down to Gadebridge Park. The celebration starts at 11am and taking pride of place on one of the floats will be Jamie Hodgson and Asanti Reynolds, chosen as Jubilee Heroes through a Gazette competition in partnership with Community Action Dacorum.
Once the procession reaches Gadebridge Park revellers can enjoy live music, children’s entertainment, a big screen streaming the Buckingham Palace Jubilee Concert and the event will be topped off with a fireworks display at 10.30pm. Dacorum Borough Council is asking people to capture their celebrations on camera for a competition and exhibition that will be held later this year.
l Hemel Hempstead, Bonmarche shop, Marlowes, is hosting a Jubilee Tea and Treats to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. The store will be getting out the bunting and waving the flag from 11am to 5pm.
l Berkhamsted, High Street, street party running from 1pm to 4pm. Afternoon Tea from 1pm to 3.30pm at Berkhamsted School’s Dean’s Hall, followed by a Keep Calm and Catwalk fashion show at 3.30pm. Evening party at Ashlyns School from 7pm to 11pm, £2 for adults, children free.
l Little Gaddesden, Gaddesden Place, Leighton Buzzard Road, Jubilee beacon and picnic in the park, gates open at 7pm and the beacon is lit between 10pm and 10.30pm.
l Potten End, Holy Trinity Church will be hosting a Jubilee-themed flower show and from 5pm visitors are invited to take picnics to the village green or enjoy a barbecue provided by the pub Martin’s Pond and cakes made by Potten End Women’s Institute. From 6.30pm there will be a tug-of-war competition on the Spencer Holland Recreation Ground, courtesy of The Plough pub and at 10pm a Jubilee beacon will be lit, followed by fireworks.
l Tring, St Peter and St Paul Church, High Street, 8.15pm to 10.30pm. Service of Thanksgiving with refreshment, the screening of the Buckingham Palace concert and the lighting of a beacon on the church tower
l Bovingdon, King George V Playing Field, family fun day from 1pm with stalls, games, food, tombola, bouncy castles, dog agility and more. Memorial Hall, High Street, free live entertainment from 1pm to 5pm with Dave Darvill and Friends and The Bovingdon Flyers.Licensed bar with real ale. Then from 7pm a live concert with Backbeat. Tickets cost £10 in advance from the parish office or call Sue on 01442 833704. There’s a prize for the best 60s fancy dress.
l Sarratt, The Green from 1.30pm, sporting fun, competitions, displays and music. Bring and share a picnic tea from 3.15pm. Visitors are being encouraged to dress in 1950s fashion or red, white and blue attire. Some chairs and tables will be provided but please bring your own if possible. If the weather is bad the event will be held in the village hall. At 7.45pm, David Clough will introduce an evening of music and song with bar and ploughman’s supper. Tuesday, June 5:
l Kings Langley, Green Park, The Nap, party in the park running from 1pm to 7pm. Take a picnic along and enjoy the entertainment on offer.
l Little Gaddesden, the start of jubilee fun is marked with the ringing of the church bells at 10.45, followed by the official opening by MP Mike Penning. Village events include historic tours, fancy dress, children’s shows, maypole dancing, performances, garden tours and tug-of-war. Entry costs £2.50 for adults and includes a programme.
In the evening the village hall hosts a comedy night with Craig Campbell. Doors open at 7.15pm, tickets cost £15 and are available from the village shop.
