Berkhamsted’s A-level students have today (Thursday) been celebrating a cracking set of results.

At Berkhamsted School there was a 99.6 per cent overall pass rate with 47.7 per cent of pupils achieving A* and A grades in all of their subjects.

Out of those, 16.6 per cent of pupils got all A* grades, 81.8 per cent of them got all A* to B grades and 97.5 per cent got all A* to C grades.

Meanwhile, James Shapland, headteacher at the town’s Ashlyns School, said none of the state schools in the area will be disclosing the break-down of pupils’ results at this stage.

But he said: “It has been a delightful day – you come into a school of smiling faces.

“We are very pleased with the results and most importantly, the students seem to have done fantastically well.

“We are absolutely delighted that all of their hard work has paid off, so they can go on to fulfil their ambitions in the future.”

A group of Ashlyns School students – including former head girl Ella Joyner – were planning to celebrate their results at London’s Ministry of Sound nightclub.

Ella got three A* grades in politics, Spanish and French and an A in history.

She said: “I do not think it’s really hit me yet and it’s taken lots of work, but I am over-the-moon.”

Sophie Keating, from Berkhamsted School, got A* grades in Maths, English literature and biology. She got an A in history.

The 18-year-old will now study English literature at Cambridge University.

She said: “I feel absolutely thrilled and really, really happy.”

Berkhamsted School principal Mark Steed said: “I congratulate both the students and the teachers on all their hard work.”

He thanked Jeremy Walker, headteacher of Berkhamsted School’s sixth form, who is leaving after three years in the role and being replaced by Michael Bond.

Mr Bond is a former head of sixth form at Merchant Taylors’ Independent Boys’ School, near Watford.
