Two massage therapists will embark on a two-week trip to Sarajevo to help trauma victims of the Balkan War.
Carol Quirk and Lucinda Cracknell, who work at BAYoga in Berkhamsted High Street, will give free treatment to amputees, rape victims, concentration camp survivors and others during the trip.
Lucinda, 38, who lives in the town’s Cross Oak Road, said massage can help lessen the post-traumatic stress of war victims as well as relieving their aches and pains.
She said: “Their bodies and minds have taken on a stressful way of being and got stuck. Massage is one way of trying to make them switch onto a more sustainable way of being.
“Their state of being becomes calm, rather than being stuck in its fight-or-flight response.”
To help fun their trip the pair will give 15-minute massages at BAYoga from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday in return for a donation to the Healing Hands Network.
