THE big switch-off is looming – but you still have a month left in which to have your say before Herts County Council pulls the plug on overnight street lighting in a bid to save cash.

The plans could see darkness descend as three quarters of lights fall dark between midnight and 6pm.

Councillor Ian Reay, who represents Berkhamsted, has launched a public consultation on the way the plan affects the town.

The aim of the plan, which will take about two weeks to complete, is to cut CO2 emissions as well as costs.

It was confirmed on Thursday, and county chiefs now have published a draft map listing all of the affected roads in Berkhamsted.

Mr Reay has displayed it in Berkhamsted Civic Centre for people to view before emailing him at ian.reay@hertscc.gov.uk with their comments before next Friday.
