A man who aims to run 2,012 miles by the end of 2012 needs more sponsorship money to reach his £2,012 target.
John Garner, 47, is running in support of Music at St John’s, a charity that uses music to educate youngsters. He has so far run more than 1,780 miles.
John, a member of Dacorum and Tring Athletics Club for the last 27 years and a former international decathlete, was not used to long distance runs during his earlier sporting life. He said: “We were all about sprinting and hurling and jumping. The thought of running six to seven miles was about as far away as landing on the moon.”
The former student of Hemel Hempstead’s Cavendish School is now running more than seven miles for six days a week, and his furthest run so far is 17 miles.
He had not run continuously for further four miles previously.
He has also staged a ball at Hemel Hempstead’s Boxmoor Lodge in support of the charity, set up by parishioners of nearby St John’s Church. You can sponsor him at www.justgiving.com/run2012milesmasj
