Film crews pick Hemel Hempstead over Hollywood

Makers of a spoof film about football hooligans have chosen Hemel Hempstead as their backdrop.

Stars of The Hooligan Factory – which is written and directed by Nick Nevern – descended on Hemel Hempstead Town FC to start filming on Tuesday.

Intended as a parody of films such as The Football Factory and Rise Of The Footsoldier, the film follows the story of Danny, played by Jason Maza, the son of a convicted football hooligan looking to gain a reputation as notorious as his father’s.

Hemel Hempstead Town FC was transformed into a fictional club for the film and the crew are due to return on Friday with more than 100 extras to fill a stand.

Although it’s the first time the club has been used as a location for a film, the ground was used as a backdrop for a photo shoot with Robin Van Persie in 2010.

Club chairman Dave Boggins said: “We have to pay rates as a club but we don’t open until 5pm so it just sits here empty in the day. It made sense to put it out there that we’re open to filming and available as a location.”

The film’s official twitter account said of Hemel Hempstead: “It’s a great location with a load of cinematic locations. We are very happy. It was Hemel or Hollywood. It was an easy choice.”

The crew is looking for extras of all shapes sizes for filming on Thursday at the Greenacres Tavern in Leys Road and Hemel Hempstead Town FC on Friday.

All you need to do to get your moment on the big screen is send a recent picture of yourself with your name and phone number to hooliganfactoryextras@gmail.com
