An Olympic project involving people across the globe has won a prestigious arts award.
Quilts4London, created by Irene Heathcote of Grovehill, Hemel Hempstead, scooped the first place Epic Award for England.
Irene saw the thread of her idea unravel into a multinational sensation, inspiring 15,000 people to create 17,000 quilted pennants for the Olympic and Paralympic athletes during the 2012 games.
Irene, 62, said: “I am so proud to have won. The idea captured imaginations around the world.
“We can now tell everyone involved that this is what they achieved, and we can thank them.”
Quilts4London is also to be honoured with a permanent plaque in the Olympic Park’s Copper Box.
