A project called Operation Onion has been launched by a new hospital boss to improve care.

It is exploring changes to help ensure emergency patients are treated quickly, efficiently and correctly, first time.

Chief executive of the trust that runs Hemel Hempstead’s Urgent Care Centre, Watford and St Albans hospitals, Samantha Jones, said: “We are challenging everything we currently do and seeing if there are ways we can do things differently and better.

“These include faster turnaround for testing in the acute admissions unit, reviewing portering requirements, providing additional patient transport to avoid delays, and ensuring decisions made during ward rounds are acted upon without delay.”

The project’s name was chosen because it is peeling back the layers of emergency services.
