The British Red Cross is to move out of its base in Tring after 41 years of leasing the hall.
The hall will be handed back to Tring Town Council from June, as the charity can no longer afford to maintain it.
The Tring Red Cross Hall was built on council-owned land in 1972 with cash raised by Red Cross supporter Nora Grace.
Since then, it has been run by a volunteer management committee first headed by Mrs Grace, who died nine years ago, then Shirley Blake and Gill Rawson. Red Cross operations director for Beds, Hets and Essex Tricia Earp said: “The Tring Red Cross Hall has been a great community resource for more than 40 years.
“I’d like to pay tribute to Nora Grace, who showed such energy and commitment in building and managing the hall for over 30 years, and to publicly thank Shirley and Gill for their tireless dedication in running the hall in recent years.”
The Red Cross hopes it can still use the hall for its meetings. It will use cash it saves from giving up the hall to fund emergency response, first aid training and its other community services.
