An educational tour of the battlefield site Ypres will kick-start a county-wide remembrance project in line with the First World War centenary next year.

Dan Hill of the Herts At War scheme said: “During this tour, not only will we discover the Hertfordshire Regiment’s wartime history, but also have a great opportunity to meet with and discuss the upcoming centenary with like-minded people from organisations and groups working towards the same goal of remembrance.”

Hertfordshire MPs, historians and press are invited to the Belgium trip on Saturday, which includes tracing the footsteps of fallen Leverstock Green soldier Reggie Secretan, and laying a wreath to the regiment at the Last Post ceremony.

It is hoped the tour will be rolled out to others in the lead up to 2014, which marks 100 years since the outbreak of the Great War.
