Three Year 11 girls who set the ball rolling explained this week why they put forward their head teacher’s name for a prestige award.

Eddie Gaynor of Astley Cooper School in Grovehill was named on Friday as the best secondary school head in the East of England – and he’s in the running for a national title in October.

Mr Gaynor was brought in to reshape the reputation of the school and his work has been recognised in the 2013 Pearson Teaching Awards.

Judges who visited the school to see it in action were shown around the St Agnell’s Lane campus by the trio, who are part of what Mr Gaynor described this week as an exceptional year group.

He’s written to each of them to thank them for putting his name forward.

See what each of them has to say in our video report.
