Berkhamsted man Colin Smith was one of 62 finishers in Sunday’s RAF Halton Sprint Triathlon for Tring’s Rennie Grove Hospice Care.
Although the 48-year-old has taken part in marathons and cycling events before, it was his first triathlon. He finished in 1h 18m 57s, coming 38th.
He said: “I’m really not a swimmer but I had some swimming lessons at Christmas to try to improve my technique.
“I’m actually really pleased with how the swim went in the end though and the cycling and running were fine too, despite some of the hills posing a bit of a challenge.
“It was a great feeling to finish and there was good support and encouragement all along the way. I will definitely be back to do it again.”
