Scouts camp in woods to learn survival skills

Scouts have been out in the woods learning key skills they will need for an adventure-packed trip to the Netherlands later this year.

Overnight tasks included making improvised shelters, sawing and chopping wood and cooking their own dinner over fires.

More than 100 members of Hemel Hempstead District Scouts took part in the event at Lees Wood campsite in Chandlers Cross.

The youngsters will go cycling and canoeing during their visit to the Netherlands in August as well as visiting Amsterdam, a traditional Dutch village and a theme park.

In other news, the achievements of 156 members of Hemel Hempstead District Scouts were celebrated at the group’s first awards evening last week.
