The door of a home had to be forced open by police after carers heard a personal safety alarm sounding.
Herts County Council workers dialled 999 after hearing the alert on Friday evening at a property in Field Road, Adeyfield.
No one was answering the door when they knocked and the curtains were drawn.
Herts Constabulary spokesman Olivia Finucane said: “Two alarms had activated to say someone inside was in a distressed state.”
Police used their specialist equipment to force entry into the home but when they got inside no one was home.
