Workers from Marks and Spencer are jumping in the saddle to raise cash for good causes.

Staff at the store in Hemel Hempstead’s Marlowes Shopping Centre are taking it in turns to pedal on a spin bike set up in the mall.

It is part of a country-wide fundraiser by the food and clothing firm to bring in cash for Prostate Cancer UK, the Marie Keating Foundation, Action Medical Research for Children, Action Cancer and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Manager Mark Madden, who pedalled for an hour and a half on the first day of the three day charity challenge, said: “People have been very generous. There has been £5 notes going in the bucket.”

Leisure centre provider Sportspace is supporting the event by providing the spin bike and instructors to show M&S staff how to use it.

The spinathon will continue today (Saturday) from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
