There was no chance of Bryn Aldridge getting big-headed when he was one of the people awarded an medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Bryn, 65, of Windermere Close, Hemel Hempstead, said the reaction he got to his MBE was an ego-crushing “What have you done?” from one of his two daughters.
“They were very pleased,” added Bryn. “I think I received it mainly for being project director during the Olympics and Paralympics.”
Bryn, whose two daughters Claire and Laura live locally, retired from the City of London Corporation after 22 years earlier this year and said the medal was a great signing off.
His role of project director for the Olympics and Paralympics in the City in 2012 saw him make preparations, including road closures, for all the events in the Square Mile, including two marathons during that brilliant summer of sport.
But the former director of veterinary services and port health, who is married to Sheila, has also served a total of 42 years in local government.
He’s now enjoying retirement including playing golf and going fishing.
Hertfordshire’s chief fire officer Roy Wilsher received a Queens Fire Service Medal (QFSM) in list, while civil servant Andrew Wright, from Kings Langley, a Higher Executive Officer at the Ministry of Defence, received an MBE for services to the armed forces.
Another civil servant Rachel Below, from Berkhamsted, received an OBE for services to government financial management.
