Antennas made by a firm in Tring helped Nepal Television record an historic event on top of Everest.

Red Bull Media marked the 60th anniversary of the ascent of the world’s tallest mountain by getting Russian extreme sport star Valery Rozov to jump off the peak.

The FA-180 1.8m flyaway antenna, made by GigaSat, in Tring Business Centre, Icknield Way, helped the television station record the amazing jump from 7,220m which was the world’s highest base jump ever.

More than two years were spent preparing for the jump, including time and effort devoted to developing a special new Wingsuit.

Rozov and his team, which included four Sherpas as well as photographers and camera crew, spent nearly three weeks in the Himalayas before the jump.

Nepal Television engineers Surendra Karn and Kapil Bhattarai operated the uplink while Hari Bhandari took the photograph of the FA-180 at base camp.

GigaSat manufactures products for use in all earth station applications, whether fixed, vehicle based or flyaway.
