Joblessness among the 16-24 age group in the east of England, which includes Dacorum, has hit a staggering 18 per cent.
But online learning provider learndirect says it has 18 vacancies for apprentices from employers on offer which it says is a “positive sign” for the local economy.
Employers including firms Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted are looking to fill roles in sectors including customer services, retail and health and social care.
Tracy Beesley, regional sales manager at learndirect said: “Apprenticeships provide a fantastic way to earn money, gain valuable work experience and come away with qualifications which provide a foundation for a great career. What’s more, there is a huge range of jobs in a variety of sectors available, meaning there is something for most young people.
“Having 18 apprenticeship vacancies to fill is a positive sign for the local economy in Hertfordshire.”
