A charity event that was launched to replace a midnight walk that had to be cancelled because not enough people signed up to take part may itself be called off for the same reason.
The 10km Walk to Remember is due to begin and end at Halton House, near Wendover, on Sunday, July 14.
The mansion, one of many created by the Rothchild banking family in Victorian times, is rarely open to the public.
But so far only 30 people have signed up to the walk. Tring-based charity Rennie Grove Hospice Care had hoped that at least 100 would take part in the fundraiser, raising £10,000 in sponsorship.
Spokesman Gemma Baxter said: “It is a chance to remember people you have loved and lost in very beautiful surroundings, and help secure the future of this service in the heart of the community.”
But she said it may have to be cancelled if entry levels do not pick up.
The event aims to replace the after-dark Goodnight Walk in Beaconsfield, which was held for the last time in June last year.
The hospice provides care to people with life-limiting illnesses in their own homes – but needs £6.5 million a year to run itself.

Entry is £17 for adults, £7.50 for children between five and 16 years and is free for the under-fives.
