The final go ahead has been given to plans to expand a primary school by 30 reception places to meet demand.

After a four week statutory notice period to inform the public, county councillors decided at its cabinet meeting last week to proceed with the expansion of South Hill Primary School in Heath Lane.

Planning permission for the works required still needs to be granted by Dacorum Borough Council.

The expansion is part of a countywide programme with an investment of more than £21 million, which should lead to the creation of 249 extra permanent places at 13 schools across Herts.

Councillor Chris Hayward, who oversees education and skills, said: “Like many other local authorities, Hertfordshire is in a challenging position with a significant rise in the number of children registered with GPs who will require primary school places within the next few years.”

Any concerns around traffic congestion at South Hill will be dealt with through the planning application process.
