A former parish councillor for Flamstead will be sworn in as Herts crime czar David Lloyd’s new deputy commissioner, pending agreement from the county’s Police and Crime Panel.

The proposed appointment of David Gibson, who lives in the same village as Mr Lloyd, will be considered at a panel meeting on Thursday.

The former BBC worker from Flamstead was one of 14 candidates who applied for the £50,000 a year role.

Mr Lloyd announced his intention to open the recruitment process after months without a deputy following Rachel Frosh’s resignation in February. The two day a week role held by Dr Frosh, before she left the job after re-tweeting a Nazi-themed post, had paid £20,000.

Mr Lloyd said: “All interviewed candidates performed well. The chief executive Roy Wilsher and I agreed that David demonstrated the best overall fit to the job.”

The panel has three weeks to comment but could decide on Thursday to endorse Mr Gibson’s appointment.
