A man who was fitted with a pacemaker four years ago is not letting it get in his way – having completed a five-mile run through the Olympic Park just weeks after cycling from London to Brighton.
Alan Batchelor, 54, of Warners End, signed up for the National Lottery Anniversary Run with son Ross, 31, because he did not get the chance to visit the famous London landmark during last year’s Olympic Games.
He said: “The only thing I got to see last year was beach volleyball, so I thought the only way to get into the Olympic Stadium now was by running. As we ran through they were playing shots of Mo Farah winning, it gave me goose pimples.
“It was just the experience of running where all those other athletes had been around this time last year, it was amazing.”
Both Alan and Ross finished the challenge in a time of 1hr, 5mins and 8secs.
Dacorum & Tring Athletics Club club member Lee Bryant also completed Sunday’s run in a time of 45mins 36secs, only a month after suffering a twisted ankle on a training run.
