A free-range egg farm in Bulbourne near Tring took centre stage with its top welfare standards this week during a visit from the RSPCA’s vice president
Richard Howitt met with Andrew Jolet of Noble Foods and Freedom Food Assessor Andrea Stanley to discover exactly how the hens’ welfare is monitored.
The visit came after a survey which revealed the nation’s ignorance when it comes to food and farming.
One in 10 said they had tasted ‘chicken trotters’, and eight per cent said they’d tried ‘pigs’ wings’.
Richard said: “If people knew more about the provenance of the food they eat and the lives of the animals that produce it, they are more likely to care.”
