A planning application that outlines the first stages of the regeneration of Hemel Hempstead has been submitted to planning bosses.

It details plans to demolish the council’s Civic Centre to make way for a Morrisons supermarket, petrol station and a new college complex.

The £25 million scheme named The Link - because it will pull together the old and new parts of the town - is part of wider regeneration plans.

It promises to provide a state-of-the-art college and bring around 350 permanent jobs to the area.

It forms part of Dacorum Borough Council’s Hemel Evolution programme - regeneration plans for the town over the next ten years, which includes a new, community-focused public service hub on land to the south of the new supermarket, proposals to improve the Water Gardens, supporting the development of a new hospital site and generally improving the town centre.
