Youngsters from 1st Kings Langley Scouts group rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty after being given the chance to cultivate an allotment.
Abbots Langley Parish Council offered the group the facilities to grow their own on an allotment on Kings Langley’s Primrose Hill site.
The excited children were quick to help remove heavy stones from their patch, many of which were used to create two paths across the allotment.
A variety of seeds were sown but due to the bad weather earlier in the year, it was only the shallots and onions that flourished, along with potatoes.
More than 40 kilogrammes of spuds were harvested and the group were at a loss with what to do with them all.
Group chairman Alan Johnson said: “The potatoes were donated to the two Abbeyfield Houses in the village for their elderly residents.”
“The group are already looking towards next year and whether to be more adventurous with cucumber, purple carrots, courgette and dwarf beans.
