Lock it up or be an easy target for crooks, police warn after spate of vehicle crime

Police have been hitting the streets to stress the importance of locking up – an obvious crime prevention tip that does not seem to be hitting home with some.

Officers were at various locations around the borough giving security advice last week and this week police have revealed that vehicle crime in the area has almost doubled because careless motorists are failing to secure their cars.

Herts Constabulary officers were at train stations in the borough and elsewhere, including the Marlowes Shopping Centre, to dish out home security advice to commuters and shoppers.

Now following 28 offences of thefts from vehicles in Hemel Hempstead, Tring and Kings Langley over the last fortnight police have added vehicle security to the crime prevention message.

As well as valuables from inside, number plates have been snatched and officers recommend that owners fit anti-tamper screws .

For more security advice call the police non-emergency number 101 or visit www.herts.police.uk and watch the police security video linked to this report.
