Police were called in when Andrew Stacey was discovered dead in bed by his carer because of fears he may have taken his own life.
But an inquest into his death on Thursday concluded that diabetic Mr Stacey, 64, of Gossoms End, Berkhamsted, died of natural causes.
Before his death on May 5 this year Mr Stacey had revealed he was considering an insulin overdose because he was unhappy with his life, but toxicology tests showed no evidence of this.
A post mortem examination found his heart to be enlarged, calcification of the arteries leading to his heart and signs of high blood pressure.
Herts coroner Edward Thomas recorded that he died of acute cardiac failure due to chronic ischemic heart disease with contributing factors of type two diabetes and hypertension.
